Overfilling your car’s crankcase will cause the oil level to rise above optimum when your engine is running resulting in air bubbles entering the oil mixture.  Air bubbles in the oil can cause the oil pump to have problems circulating the oil.  Over the long term this can shorten the lifespan of the oil pump.  In the short term, this can lead to your engine overheating which can cause additional damage to your engine.
