Car Care Tip: Don’t Top Off Your Gas Tank

Overfilling your gas tank is simply a waste.  Gas pumps are designed to click off when your tank is full. The gasoline you add when you top off the tank typically splashes out or evaporates within the first few minutes of driving.  So save gas (and a nickel) and stop pumping when the automatic nozzle clicks off.  Your tank is full.

Car Care Tip: Check your oil each time you fill up

Big city driving can take its toll on your engine.  That’s why Kwik Kar recommends that you check your oil every time you fill up with gas.

Here’s the best way to make sure you get an accurate reading when you check your oil:

  • Run your engine for at least 15 minutes to warm the oil
  • Make sure your car is parked on level ground
  • Turn off your car’s engine for 15 minutes to allow the engine to drain back into the oil pan
  • Remove the dipstick and clean it with a paper towel
  • Reinsert the dipstick making sure it is all the way in
  • Remove the dipstick again and check the oil level.  The dipstick will have marks indicating optimal levels for your vehicle.
  • If necessary, add the type of oil indicated in your owner’s manual or stop by your local DFW Kwik Kar.
  • If the oil appears to be dark or obviously dirty, its time for an oil change.  Find the DFW Kwik Kar near you and be sure to check out the latest oil change specials available.
